Annual Housemuseum Lecture Series - Encounters with Art
3:00pm - 5:00pm
Sunday, 19 November 2017
In this, the ninth lecture in the Housemuseum's Annual Lecture Series on art and architecture, Corbett Lyon will present an illustrated talk entitled Encounters with Art. How does the placement of art in the space of a museum affect the way we perceive and read works of art? What are the key elements in this three-way relationship between artwork, architecture and the engaged spectator?
Using historical and contemporary examples, Lyon will explore these interconnections, highlighting their application to contemporary museum design and curatorial practice.
Corbett Lyon is an architect, Professorial Fellow and Visiting Professor in Design at the University of Melbourne. He lectures widely on contemporary art and the architecture of museums. He is a Trustee of the National Gallery of Victoria, a Member of the International Council of Museums and is co-founding patron and architect of the Lyon Housemuseum.
